Miss Piggy Fountain Removed From Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Miss Piggy Lady Liberty fountain has been removed from Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as the space becomes Monstropolis.

Miss Piggy Fountain Gone

Brick buildings with colorful shutters and red umbrellas surround the Muppets Courtyard at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The fountain continued to run after MuppetVision 3D closed, and the courtyard was blocked off. We could continue to see the water spouting out of Piggy’s torch over the construction walls. But now, not only is the water gone, but the Miss Piggy statue — and possibly the entire fountain — appears to have been removed.

Try as we might, we could not see hide nor hair of Miss Piggy over the construction walls. Some trees have also been removed from the courtyard. The MuppetVision 3D marquee remains, but the Sweetums flat is gone from next to the Lightning Lane entrance.

For comparison, above our photos from less than a week apart showing the same area of Grand Avenue, the former home of the Muppets. With the trees gone, we can now see straight back to a steel frame at the back of the courtyard. Though this frame may look like the start of construction, it was actually there long before the courtyard closed, and used to hold an apartments facade.

Here’s a zoomed-in look at our June 21 photo. If you look right in the middle of the photo, you’ll see the water spouting out of Miss Piggy’s torch.

The PizzeRizzo sign also remains on the quick-service restaurant, but the flags were removed from the poles hanging from the rooftop.

In our photo comparison above, you can tell how many trees were removed from the courtyard.

The Miss Piggy fountain may be preserved and moved elsewhere — perhaps to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which will be rethemed to the Muppets next year, or to The Walt Disney Archives.

New Monsters, Inc. Land

A concept art poster for Monsters, Inc. Land is displayed on a red construction wall at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Muppets Courtyard was part of Grand Avenue. It included MuppetVision 3D, PizzeRizzo, and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. All three closed permanently for the area to become a Monsters, Inc. land. Stage 1 Company Store, the former Muppets store, is expected to be completely demolished while the rest of the buildings will be repurposed.

The newest concept art shows the MuppetVision 3D theater renamed “The Glob.” There’s a new fountain in place of Miss Piggy. Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s. PizzeRizzo will likely be a Monsters-themed quick-service restaurant.

Guests will enter the Monsters, Inc. door coaster via Monsters, Inc. headquarters. A new map from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District reveals the size of the coaster’s show building, which is taking over a Cast Member parking lot. It will be Disney’s first vertical lift coaster and first suspended coaster.
