Renée Victor, most notably the voice of Abuelita in “Coco,” has passed away after a battle with lymphoma.

According to Deadline, the actress passed away surrounded by family at her Sherman Oaks, California home on the evening of May 30, 2025. She was 86.
A statement for her daughters, Raquel Victor and Margo Victor, partially reads,
“Renee was loved by so many & had fans all over the world. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.”
Victor was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1938, the eldest of three sisters. She moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s, where she began her career as a singer and actress. While best known for her role in 2017’s “Coco,” she was involved in many other projects, including one with her husband where they traveled globally to perform together under the banner “Ray & Renée” — nicknamed the Latin Sonny & Cher.
Other notable credits include film work on “The Doctor,” “The Apostle,” and “A Night in Old Mexico.” She also worked on television series like “ER,” 1992’s “The Addams Family,” and “Mayans M.C.,” among other roles.
With the recent announcement of “Coco 2,” there was no cast confirmation, so we do not know if Victor’s passing will impact the upcoming film or story.
