It looks like King Arthur has finished his vacation and returned the Sword in the Stone to its refurbished anvil in Magic Kingdom.

Sword in the Stone Refurbishment

WDWNT reported on Thursday that the sword had been removed from the stone and there was a tarp around the anvil. It’s now clear the removal was for a refurbishment of the anvil. The stone itself appears to have been untouched during the refurbishment.

A sword embedded in an anvil is displayed in front of a carousel with colorful horses and people.

The anvil is much darker than before. It usually looks more bronze, but this is in part due to how often it’s touched, rubbing away its finish. The sword is also looking bright and shiny.

A sword is embedded in an anvil on a stone pedestal, with people standing and walking in the background.

There are some red markings on the back of the stone, potentially left over from construction work. They may be cleaned off or painted over.

The Sword in the Stone is obviously based on Disney’s 1963 film of the same name, which is inspired by Arthurian legend. The film follows young Wart as he trains under the wizard Merlin, before eventually pulling the sword from the stone and becoming King Arthur. The historic film is notable for being the first Disney film to feature songs by the Sherman Brothers.
