Hong Kong Disneyland has debuted “Momentous: Party in the Night Sky,” which is a 20th anniversary version of their nighttime spectacular with a new drone segment.
‘Momentous: Party in the Night Sky’

“Momentous: Party in the Night Sky” is a 30-minute show that has debuted along with several new entertainment offerings as part of the Hong Kong Disneyland 20th anniversary, “The Most Magical Party of All.” As previously announced, the changes to the usual “Momentous” nighttime spectacular include eight multi-media effects and projections down Main Street, U.S.A. for the first time at this resort. It also incorporates drones, illuminated water projections, choreographed water fountains, flames, lasers, theatrical lighting, and pyrotechnic effects.
One important note is that the majority of the changes for “Momentous: Party in the Night Sky” are part of a new preshow-style segment that has been added to the existing “Momentous” show. The drones and additional effects are all part of the new segment, which runs for approximately 10 minutes at the beginning. The rest of “Momentous” is unchanged, except for the addition of the Main Street projections.

The show now begins with drones creating the anniversary’s “20” logo, which has a Mickey icon replacing the “0,” behind the Castle of Magical Dreams.

The next segment of the show includes the Fairy Godmother from “Cinderella” casting a spell with her usual “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo.” As she completes the words, Mickey appears above the castle as though he is suspended in the air with a handful of balloons. Multicolored balloons have been a recurring theme in many of the 20th anniversary decorations around the park.

In keeping with the “Cinderella” theme of this segment, the drones also create the face of a large clock to the left of Mickey, which we hear as it strikes midnight. The show is coordinated with projections on the castle as well as drones, so Mickey slowly floats down and seemingly appears on the front of the Castle of Magical Dreams.

As the clock disappears, the drones move to form Tinker Bell as she waves her wand over the castle. A swirl of Pixie Dust goes around the tallest turret, matched by more projections. The fountains in front of the castle burst in bright gold as the Pixie Dust settles.

For the next segment, the fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather argue over whether the castle should be pink or blue, just as they do in “Sleeping Beauty.” Their argument results in both the castle and the facades of the Main Street buildings changing colors back and forth several times.

Transitioning to a segment inspired by “Coco,” the drones form the image of Miguel playing his guitar above the castle.

The projections make the castle and Main Street appear like the Land of the Dead, while the drones also create the film’s iconic Marigold Bridge.

The Fairy Godmother mentions the best way to celebrate is with “friends and family” as the music of “Friend Like Me” begins to play. After appearing in projection form on the castle, the drones create several copies of the Genie’s floating head.

Near the end of the song, the drones move to form the faces of Duffy and all six of his friends, including ShellieMay, Gelatoni, StellaLou, CookieAnn, ‘Olu Mel, and LinaBell.

The finale of the added section includes several fireworks that run down Main Street and the sides of the castle as the “20” logo returns once more. The projections on the castle also change to match the color scheme of the celebration, with the golden “20” logo made of metallic swirls in the center.
