As of the morning of July 19, Disneyland Park’s newest show, Walt Disney – A Magical Life, is not using a virtual queue.
Walt Disney – A Magical Life Not Using Virtual Queue

Walt Disney – A Magical Life first opened to all guests on July 17, which was the 70th birthday of Disneyland. For the past few days since its debut, guests were required to join a virtual queue. Only guests with a Disneyland Park reservation could join the 7 a.m. virtual queue drop, but the 12 p.m. drop was available for guests at Disney California Adventure as well. Guests were only able to enter the virtual queue once per day, essentially limiting the number of times guests could watch the show.
According to a recent update on the Disneyland Resort app, guests no longer have to enter a virtual queue to experience Walt Disney – A Magical Life. When clicking into the list of virtual queue attractions for Disneyland Park, there is a new notice saying “This virtual queue is not currently in use.”

More details below the announcement explain that the virtual queue is not permanently gone from the show. Disney notes, “We plan to open virtual queue for Walt Disney – A Magical Life as needed each day.” It seems the new plan is for Disney to asses the anticipated crowds each day, and make a decision on whether a virtual queue is needed. The text does not explain when this decision will be made, so guests may need to keep checking the app for the latest information on whether the show is using a virtual queue or standby line.
With the virtual queue not in use, guests at Disneyland Park on July 19, or any day without a virtual queue, are able to walk up to the Main Street Opera House and join a traditional standby line.

The bottom of the text does include the same language that joining a virtual queue does not guarantee access to the show. Disney has noted that in the case of unexpected circumstances, The Disneyland Story presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln may be presented instead. However, this did not happen earlier this week, when the show had unexpected downtime after the Walt animatronic figure broke down mid-performance.
