Wallpaper Removed, More Concrete Work in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Lobby

Crews have poured more concrete and torn down more wallpaper in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.

Birdcage Bar Foundation

A construction area with tools, boxes, and workers inside the Grand Floridian lobby with unfinished walls and exposed framing.

The wood framing we saw installed around the foundation of the new birdcage bar has been encased in concrete. Support elements and pipes stick out of the concrete. There’s an opening in the concrete on one side — probably for the bar’s future door, where Cast Members where enter and exit.

As we also noted in our last construction update, the blue elements are rubber covers for drains.

Five workers stand around equipment and supplies in a partially constructed room with wooden walls and patterned carpet.

There were multiple crew members on site, gathered around a tool box and lift.

New Scrim

A seemingly random area of the lobby is now blocked off by a metal frame holding up white scrims. The scrim is standing around part of a planter outside Curiouser Clothiers on the ground floor of the lobby.

A white privacy curtain encloses an area in a hotel lobby, viewed from above; people walk nearby.

There’s no clear work on this planter yet, but there may be changes soon. Plants remain in their usual spot for now.

Wall Work

On the second floor, another area is blocked by white scrims next to the perpetually-closed Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (the boutique never reopened after the 2020 COVID-19 shutdown). The scrims extend from the boutique’s door and around the corner to the elevators.

White drape covers part of a wall with peeling paint near an elevator with a decorative sky panel above it.

Behind the scrims, it’s clear some of the wallpaper has been torn down. The wallpaper throughout the lobby is also being replaced. We’ve already seen a new damask wallpaper installed on some walls.

White curtains section off an area near an elevator in the Grand Floridian lobby with ornate flooring and wall decor.

The same location near the elevators is blocked off on the ground floor. Wallpaper has also been removed behind these curtains.

The hallway leading to Citricos and Victoria & Albert’s is back open, but there are still scrims situated around the nearby stairwell. Similarly, the PhotoPass area next to M. Mouse Mercantile is also still blocked.

Grand Floridian Concept Art

The picture seen above is how the lobby currently looks under construction, side by side with concept art for the reimagined lobby. The birdcage bar pays tribute to the former giant birdcage that decorated the lobby. Colorful birds will appear in stained glass and murals throughout the atrium. There will be botanical accents and colors to create a more garden-like atmosphere.
