Following the closure of MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo earlier this summer, demolition has begun on the former Muppet store, Stage 1 Company Store, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo permanently closed at the end of the operating day on June 7, 2025 to make way for the announced Monsters, Inc.-themed land first announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

Work on transforming Muppets Courtyard into Monstropolis began earlier this summer with the removal of the Miss Piggy as Lady Liberty statue from the central fountain, which was confirmed by aerial photos shortly afterward. Demolition in the area has continued since then, with some brick and concrete walkways already torn up.

In May 2025, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for the demolition of Stage 1 Company Store, the former Muppet store located in the Grand Avenue / Muppets Courtyard area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As of July 30, demolition has begun.

Disney contracted PCL Construction Services, Inc. to handle the demolition work. As you can see in the photo above, the exterior of the shop has started to come down. The framework for the building is now exposed, with steel detritus hanging off the side.

Above is a photo of the affected area prior to its closure. Stage 1 Company Store never properly reopened following the COVID-19 shutdown of Walt Disney World in 2020. Since then, the shop has been utilized for special events and limited-time shopping experiences only, like housing photo ops for Disney Jollywood Nights and being the release location for May the 4th merchandise.

Though we can’t confirm from this vantage point, it would seem that the front of the building may already be gone, including the Kermit the Frog clock and “Wet Paint” photo op. The “Muppet Stuff” arrow pointing to the shop’s entrance still survives, for now.

The upcoming Monsters, Inc. land will include the long-rumored door coaster, which will feature Disney’s first-ever vertical lift. The land will also include shopping, dining, and a new theater show taking over the footprint of MuppetVision 3D in a theater dubbed “The Glob.”

The Muppets won’t be too far away, though. They’re set to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which currently features Aerosmith. No closing date for the attraction has been announced, but Disney has said that the rethemed attraction will offer “new tunes” and “plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise.”
