Props have been removed from Tom’s Landing on Tom Sawyer Island, and more props are tagged for removal since the area’s permanent closure in Magic Kingdom.

Tom Sawyer Island officially closed on July 6, 2025, as the area on this side of Frontierland is prepped to become a new land themed to “Cars.” In the most recent changes to the island, more props have either been tagged for removal or already removed.

As seen in the above image, Tom’s Landing was the only operational dock in the island’s final years. Crew members removed several props from its rafters in the last few days. The rafters used to be full of furniture, crates, and other items such as hanging fishing nets.

The pots on the edge of the dock that hold hanging lanterns are all tagged red, indicating they will be removed and likely destroyed. The lanterns themselves, however, have green tags, suggesting they will be saved. The lanterns could be recycled for a future attraction or kept for archival purposes.

For comparison, above is an image of the roof of Tom’s Landing prior to the island’s closure, with several of the props seen stacked between the rafters.

In addition to the tagged props at Tom’s Landing, we could see two more red removal tags at Harper’s Mill located around the side of the island.

One red tag is located on the water trough leading into the trees. The second tag is placed on a lantern on the side of the building, to the left of the water wheel.

The “Tom (hearts) Becky” fence was also removed from Tom Sawyer Island earlier this week. Since the closures, the Rivers of America have been partially drained for construction work.

Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and the Liberty Square Riverboat closed permanently after July 6, 2025. Check out our final look at Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat.
