Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has officially closed at Magic Kingdom ahead of its major overhaul to add new vehicles, blasters, targets, and more.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Closed for Major Overhaul

When visiting the attraction on Monday, August 4, 2025, we saw that the entrance doors were closed with an “Operations Suspended” message on display.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Closure
The message reads,
OPERATIONS SUSPENDED
Star Command Code, Section 2-3A.C/D_9V: Crystolic fusion power cells depleted. Initiate immediate Recharge Protocols. All launches postponed until resorce acquisition units return.
PLEASE PROCEED TO ADJACENT MISSION ZONES.

In addition, the viewports into the attraction have been blocked by metal shutters on the PeopleMover.

Since Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Photos, the adjoining gift shop, is also closed during the refurbishment, Toy Story merchandise has been relocated to Tomorrowland Launch Depot. TRON Lightcycle / Run merchandise is still available at this location, as well.
The major overhaul for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom was announced earlier this year. The attraction is closed as of August 4 and will reopen sometime in 2026. Updates to the attraction will include a new scene featuring a new character, Buddy the support-bot; new ride vehicles inspired by Star Command with video monitors offering real-time scoring and “other exciting features;” new blasters with an always-on laser, new colors, and new light, sound, and haptics; and updated targets.

WDWNT was able to play-test the new blasters and targets coming to the attraction earlier this summer. The entire updated experience will be similar to Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue at Shanghai Disneyland and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Disney has already filed permits for this refurbishment, including for the installation of set elements and electrical work.
