Friday the 13th is back at Halloween Horror Nights with a new house: Jason Universe, a killer highlight reel of some of the franchise’s top moments.
Jason Universe at Halloween Horror Nights 2025
Backstory
Jason Universe (stylized as JASON UN1V3RSE) is the latest representation of the Friday the 13th franchise at HHN. It features kills and thrills from throughout the series, which began in 1980 with the eponymous Friday the 13th. The name references a superstition surrounding the idea that if the 13th day of a month falls on a Friday, there will be bad luck and misfortune aplenty.
The series follows Jason Voorhees, a slasher/serial killer. The original film doesn’t reveal him until the end, with his mother seemingly the main attacker in the movie. Jason drowned as a young child in 1957 while attending Camp Crystal Lake.
When a group decides to reopen the Camp, Mrs. Voorhees takes matters into her own hands. The subsequent films focus on Jason, who has become the hockey-mask-wearing slasher.
Review
Jason Universe is a strong contender for the Worst House of the Year. It’s tired and uninspired. Like Terrifier, it faces the issue of having just one antagonist. The sprinkling of victims are basic jump scares, popping up to scream when you’re distracted by a Jason.
There are weird scenes, including back-to-back rooms of multiple Jasons popping out of the walls, which stops being effective very quickly.
A couple of the sets are nice, but not the quality we’ve come to expect from Halloween Horror Nights in recent years.
The saving grace for this house is the Scareactors. They were all trying hard, but there were a select few who brought more to the table than a startle. It was a handful of Jasons and also Mrs. Voorhees. They were just limited by the repetitive and ineffective scare designs.
Rating
Just barely scraping by thanks to its cast, Jason Universe lands itself the same rating as Grave of Flesh.

History
Jason and Friday the 13th have a long history at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights. Jason first appeared in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure, a satirical comedy show that ran from 1992-2017, in its debut year. He made other small appearances throughout the years, but the first time the franchise was featured in its own house was in Friday the 13th: Camp Blood at HHN 17 (2007). It’s been ten years since Jason last had a starring role at the event in 2015’s Freddy vs. Jason.
