New Poster Released, Robin Williams’ Character Joining The Magic of Disney Animation at Hollywood Studios

Disney has released a new poster for the upcoming return of The Magic of Disney Animation attraction, featuring the return of a beloved actor’s character from the original attraction’s short film.

The Magic of Disney Animation at Hollywood Studios

Disney animated characters gather joyfully in front of the Magic of Disney Animation at Hollywood Studios.

The new poster, shared today by Disney, is visually similar to the one released earlier this summer when the announcement was made that The Magic of Disney Animation would return. However, a new (or should we say, returning) character has been added to the mix.

The Lost Boy character, originally portrayed by the late actor Robin Williams in the original The Magic of Disney Animation short film, Back to Neverland, has been added to the poster and will seemingly appear in the new attraction. The character was also featured in the Once Upon a Studio short film released in honor of 100 years of The Walt Disney Company.

The 2023 short film also serves as partial inspiration for the returning experience.

In Back to Neverland, Williams played a Disney’s Hollywood Studios guest chosen from the crowd by Walter Cronkite. The film was shown in the attraction three years prior to the release of Aladdin, in which Williams starred as the voice of the Genie. The tourist costume Genie wears at the end of the film is a direct reference to Williams’ costume worn in Back to Neverland.

The original attraction was located in Animation Courtyard from the opening of Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 1989 to 2015, when it was replaced by Star Wars Launch Bay. It offered a behind-the-scenes look into the Disney Feature Animation building, where films like Lilo & Stitch were created before the studio closed in 2004.

A lively crowd, families, and children gather near an animation studio with a large sorcerer’s hat and Pluto mascot.

The experience will return in 2026, as a “place where kids and kids at heart can laugh, draw, dream, and explore animated new experiences.” The attraction will have a Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat facade like the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California, as well as a reimagined interior taking inspiration from the Disney Animation headquarters and a “Drawn to Wonderland” playground inspired by Alice in Wonderland concept art by Disney Legend Mary Blair.

As part of this change to Animation Courtyard, the Disney’s Hollywood Studios archway will be demolished, and Star Wars Launch Bay will permanently close. A new Disney Jr. show will also debut.
