Construction crews started work on the rooftops of the Aotearoa building of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Aotearoa Roof Work

Workers on a lift repair the roof of a building with colorful geometric designs and lush landscaping.

Crews began preparing for construction at the Aotearoa building in June, possibly to repair damage the building sustained during Hurricane Milton in October 2024. Aotearoa’s overhang has been missing since then, so it may be restored during this work.

Right now, crews are working on two corners of the building. There are shade structures to protect crew members from the sun.

A string of yellow flags runs along the roof between each corner. There’s a lift vehicle parked next to the building. Barriers block guests from the construction site, including the outdoor staircase.

It appears dark brown paneling has been stripped from some of the overhang’s framework.

Crews have also prepared the guest laundry building for roof work. Yellow flags line the edge of the roof, supported by orange cones.

The decorative carved faces on the gables of this building have been covered with plastic to keep them safe during construction.

There’s a ladder at one corner of the roof. We didn’t see any crew members working during our visit, however.

The building was previously home to the Tangaroa Terrace restaurant. It ultimately closed and was converted into Cast Member spaces.

There is also ongoing construction in front of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to redirect the resort’s entrance.
