Captain Hook Cookie – $6.29
Vanilla sable with strawberry jam, peanut butter ganache, buttercream, and chocolate décor

From an aesthetic standpoint, we like the fun appearance of this treat. The size is a little small, but it is clearly Captain Hook-inspired and would be great for social media pictures.

Moving into the actual taste, our original thought is that it reminds us of a dessert Uncrustable. The red sable cookies are moist and wafer-like. Sandwiched between them is the strawberry jam, which is also stuffed between layers of peanut butter ganache on either side.

The strawberry jam hits your mouth immediately on the first bite. The strawberry is strong, but it blends well with the creamy peanut butter ganache, which is reminiscent of cookie dough. The light buttercream around the edges also pairs nicely with the other flavors.
If you like peanut butter and jelly, this is for you. If you don’t, then we suggest skipping this treat. We also can’t give it a perfect score compared to some of the other Halloween treats because of its small size. After a few bites, you’re done.

Fall Cupcake – $5.99
Vanilla cupcake with spiced apple buttercream

This is literally gross. We’re sorry if it sounds a little harsh, but we can’t imagine wanting this cupcake.
The cupcake base isn’t cooked all the way through. While you do get a mild echo of vanilla and spices, it mostly just tastes like raw dough. And we do not mean the delicious cookie dough kind.

The apple compote on the top is hit or miss. It will depend on whether you like the softer applesauce texture or not. We also could not distinguish the flavor of the buttercream over the aforementioned raw dough.

In a few words, absolutely do not get this. We regretted wasting our money, and we would have greatly preferred getting something else.
The part that hurts the most is that this isn’t trying to be an experimental flavor combination or something noteworthy. It has just been executed very badly.

The Whoopie Monster
Location

This dessert is available at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
Review
The Whoopie Monster – $6.49
Apple and Caramel Whoopie Pie with Marshmallow Buttercream

Like many of the other new Halloween snacks, the first appearance of The Whoopie Monster is very colorful and fun. This one is drenched in heavy food coloring, so expect your insides to be some interesting colors for a day or two.

While the menu mentions an apple flavor, we could not find it at all. This mainly just tastes like a synthetic sugar overload. The caramel is present in the center, but it was a very small amount compared to the scale of the cake, and we easily ate it in one bite.

This would be a great dessert for someone wanting an immediate sugar fix, but there are definitely better options, particularly at these two resorts. As one example, we would recommend the Rapunzel Berries and Cream Cake much more.
Overall, this was not that great. It tasted too artificial for our liking and had no discernable flavors other than pure sugar with added coloring.

Halloween Mummy Cupcake
Location

This cupcake is available from two locations at Walt Disney World: the BoardWalk Deli at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and The Mara at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Review
Halloween Mummy Cupcake – $6.49
Spiced Vanilla Cupcake, Apple Compote, Milk Chocolate Mousse

The next cupcake is designed to look like Mickey wearing a mummy outfit, with his ears and spots alternating with some white straps of mummy “wrappings.”

One important note is that if you want to take cute pictures, we recommend doing it quickly. The ears and spots are made of thin chocolate slices, and they both wilted in the sun.

Unlike the previous Halloween-inspired cupcake, this one was way more refreshing than we expected. The apple compote in the middle was served on the colder side, but it complimented the spiced vanilla cake perfectly. It gives you all of the fall flavors while still being light enough to eat in the August Florida heat. You would only dislike this if you really hate chocolate or pumpkin spice, as the apple is easy enough to avoid.
If we had to make any small complaints, we would love even more of that compote in the middle. There was only about a tablespoon of it, and we ate it all very quickly. We would definitely get this again, especially in this interim period where you want Halloween flavors, but it is still 100 degrees outside.

Vampire Stitch Cake – $7.99
Chocolate cake with ‘raspberry ice cream cone’ buttercream

Appearance-wise, this is a very cute dessert, as expected with almost anything Stitch-inspired. However, this looks very similar to several previous Stitch desserts, and it could easily be mistaken as something not Halloween-related at all. The only Halloween additions are the white teeth and the black collar to make Stitch a vampire.

As far as taste, this is a fairly unremarkable, sweet and slightly tangy dessert. The whole exterior is covered with a heap of thick frosting and fondant, which somewhat swallows the chocolate cake in the middle. The cake itself was very moist, and it offered a nice contrast to the raspberry filling, which reminded us of raspberry soft-serve.
There are also a few pieces of ice cream cone included in the soft and fluffy buttercream, which is a fun addition and adds a small crunch.

All of these flavors work well together, we just wish we could taste them more if the fondant weren’t so thick. If you want a sugar rush and like raspberry soft-serve or chocolate, this will be a total winner. However, we wouldn’t recommend this if you like desserts with more texture.

Mickey Pumpkin Soft-serve – $5.99
Pumpkin-spiced Soft-serve and Coconut Haupia with Caramel Drizzle, Graham Cracker Crumbs, and a White Chocolate Mickey-shaped Pumpkin

This is the second treat we have reviewed in the past week that did not have an advertised decoration item. In this case, they were missing the white chocolate Mickey-shaped pumpkin that is usually sitting on the top. As a result, the appearance of ours was a little plain.

Appearance aside, this is a light and refreshing dessert for another hot Florida day. We were afraid the pumpkin soft-serve and the coconut haupia would clash, but they were both subtle and blended nicely.

The graham cracker crumbs add a nice crunchy texture. The caramel sauce has a tendency to sink near the bottom, so we recommend scooping down if you want some in every bite. Our only critique is that you should not buy this if you expect a heavy pumpkin flavor, because it is definitely on the more subtle side. We liked this a lot and would easily order it again.

Location

The Ghoulish Beignets are back once again at Scat Cat’s Club at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter.
Review
Ghoulish Beignets – $9.49
Mickey-shaped Beignets dusted with Cookies and Cream Powdered Sugar and a ghoulish Marshmallow Crème Drizzle

You can rarely go wrong with some beignets at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. These are decorated with a gray cookies and cream-flavored dusting of powdered sugar. The marshmallow drizzle over the top actually helps to keep some of the powder in place, so this snack is not as messy as one might expect.

Overall, we were impressed that the cookies and cream flavor is present, but does not overpower the usual beignet flavors. The texture was great, as always, and we are glad to see these returning for another year.

Headless Horseman Pop – $5.49
Chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie dipped in white chocolate with a chocolate piece

This pop is mostly purple, with an orange top and brown stripes across the center. There is a white chocolate piece on the front with a Headless Horseman design, which is cute but adds nothing to the overall flavor.

In our heads, the name of this treat had us expecting something similar to a cake pop. But, if you look closely, you will notice the name does not actually contain the word “cake.” This should have been a bit of a warning, because the interior is pure cookie dough with a layer of brownie.

The cookie dough cuts down on the chocolate flavor of the brownie, helping to balance out the mixture. However, this is still extremely rich and heavy. We liked this, particularly as an ooey-gooey snack alongside a coffee. However, if you are someone who dislikes ultra-heavy desserts, this is not for you.

Pumpkin Sugar Cookie – $3.99
Halloween sugar cookie coated in dark and white chocolate

One important note for this snack is that the online description does not match what was written on the menu board, or even the actual cookie, in regard to presentation or price.
As seen in the pictures, this is a large sugar cookie that takes up the majority of one hand. It would be perfect for more than one person, or several children, to share as a light snack. This is especially a good value for $3.99.

The sugar cookie itself tastes as one would expect, but the texture was nice and soft. The layer of frosting over the top was a little thin, but that was okay because it added some sweetness without feeling like a sugar explosion (looking at you Whoopie Monster). The ghost on the top is much harder, but still tasty to eat.
This is nothing life changing, but it is cute and one of the better value options of the new Halloween treats. Our only other note is to make sure and grab plenty of napkins, because the sun will make the frosting start to melt pretty quickly.
