The bucket is molded plastic resembling a fluffy brown bear. He has blue eyes — one falling out of his head on a spring. His smiling mouth is full of crooked teeth.

Around his neck is a plaid collar with a blue ribbon. There are faux stitches on his face and down his arms.

Candy appears to be spilling out of a gash in his belly.

The bucket opening is on the back, with a snap latch on HamiKuma’s head.

He makes sounds thanks to a speaker in the top of his head. The battery compartment and switch is behind the speaker.

The tag includes battery replacement instructions and care instructions. The popcorn bucket is not dishwasher-safe or microwave-safe.

Who is HamiKuma?

A creepy HamiKuma bear costume with sharp teeth stands on stage at Universal Studios Japan’s Halloween Horror Nights.

HamiKuma is a Halloween Horror Nights mascot from Universal Studios Japan. According to his backstory, he was a popular side show act in a traveling circus. His fellow performers became jealous of his popularity and believed a rumor that he wasn’t a real bear, so slashed open his belly to see what was inside. Realizing he was a real bear, they burned down the big top to hide their crime, killing HamiKuma.

In the afterlife, the demon Death Bringer entered HamiKuma through the wound in his belly and used him to go back to the surface world. HamiKuma has returned to performing but his belly remains open with candy and other mysteries spilling out.

In Universal Studios Japan, other HamiKuma characters include HamiKuma Soul, the personification of HamiKuma’s soul still in the afterlife; HamiKuma Punk, the manifestation of HamiKuma’s anger at what happened to him; and HamiKuma Candy, the manifestation of his greed.

Earlier this year, we reported on rumors that HamiKuma would appear at U.S. Universal parks. Universal later confirmed he would make his way to other parks. Though HamiKuma merchandise is available at Universal Orlando Resort, he will be appearing exclusively on the west coast at Universal Studios Hollywood. He also visited Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas.
