HHN Director Blames High Prices for Fewer Five Nights at Freddy's Animatronics in Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood’s Creative Director for Halloween Horror Nights has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to defend complaints about the number of animatronic figures in the Five Nights at Freddy’s house.

Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the Blumhouse film, is one of the tentpole Intellectual Properties featured at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights in both California and Florida. At Florida’s version of the house, the opening scene in the Pizza Place features the iconic trio of animatronics on stage. Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica perform “Talking In Your Sleep” before things go awry.

However, fans have been complaining that the house at Universal Studios Hollywood only features Freddy on stage. Bonnie and Chica are absent, though represented by shadows behind curtains.

Many fans have protested that since they were told the two versions were “99% identical,” the lack of Bonnie and Chica animatronics is a disappointment.

Things are pricier on the West Coast—the only real difference, unless you count Five Nights at Freddy's animatronics.

His response to a complaint reads, “Wow we’re really bent about this. Sorry dude, things are a hell of a lot more expensive on the West Coast. It’s the only real difference between the houses [sic]”

The animatronics were made in partnership between Universal Studios and the Jim Henson Creature Shop, which has locations in both California and New York. The film’s figures were also made in partnership between Blumhouse and the Jim Henson Creature Shop.

The Hollywood version of Halloween Horror Nights is smaller in scale than at Universal Orlando Resort, with eight houses instead of ten, and one show instead of two. It also reuses houses from previous years, whereas Orlando (almost) always creates a brand new slate each year. However, it also has the Terror Tram, a Blumhouse-themed takeover of the Studio Tour. One house, Scarecrow: The Reaping, also notably features a custom soundtrack by Slash of Guns N’ Roses fame.

Both events feature four scare zones and appearances by Art the Clown from Terrifier.

Admission to Orlando’s event starts at $89.99 for a single night, and admission to Hollywood’s event starts at $77 for a single night.
