There are now Walt Disney Imagineering office trailers backstage at Magic Kingdom for construction of the park’s Cars expansion.

Disney filed permits to install trailers a few months ago, including for infrastructure work to support the trailers. They are now in the laydown yard to the west of the theme park, behind Frontierland. The trailers haven’t been fully installed and are currently in pieces.

The laydown yard is next to the Seven Seas Lagoon canal that holds the Electrical Water Pageant floats during the day. This is where construction materials will be staged when not in the park.

Disney also filed a permit for Imagineering buildings at the STOLport site on the other side of Magic Kingdom.

Cars Expansion

The Cars expansion replaces Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America, which closed permanently earlier this summer. The new area will have a river and other water features, as well as barrel bridges in homage to the closed attractions.

The area is called Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the Rocky Mountains. Imagineers explained how the area fits into Frontierland, representing part of America. They are considering sightlines, so guests won’t see car architecture from other areas of the park. It will have two attractions, including a rally race ride.
