Universal Horror Unleashed recently opened its first location in Las Vegas, and one of the entertainment offerings is a show titled Jack and Chance: Stay or Slay.
Jack and Chance: Stay or Slay
Universal Horror Unleashed

Universal Horror Unleashed is a first-of-its-kind, year-round Halloween Horror Nights experience that opened earlier this summer in Las Vegas’ Area15. The backstory created for the experience says Universal needed a location to store haunted or cursed items from Halloween Horror Nights, so they tucked them into a Nevada Warehouse with the help of Legendary Truth. After the artifacts destabilized the veil between our world and the Shadow World, the warehouse was locked down.

In addition to the location’s themed restaurants, merchandise, and four revitalized haunted houses, there is a bar style area called Jack’s Alley. In addition to seating, Jack’s Alley has specific areas for performers.

One such area is a short stage with a flat of Jack’s face.

The stage has multiple levels, with a spiral staircase wrapping around one column. The nearby areas are made out of shipping containers, some of which have colorful graffiti.
Viewing for the show is standing room only.
Jack and Chance
The main performers in this show are Chance and, as one would expect, Jack. The show kicks off in the bar area of Jack’s Alley as Jack’s Maniacs dance around guests on the floor and above on the walkways. Then, the maniacal ring-mistress Chance arrives in the bar, accompanied by a couple of Jack’s Maniacs dragging a “victim” with a burlap hood.

Chance introduces Jack, who appears on the balcony above, welcomes everyone with a “Hell yeah Jack!” and invites guests to join him at the Slay Stage for “Chance’s favorite game, Stay or Slay!” Jack departs, along with the Maniacs and their victim, and Chance explains how Stay or Slay works: they’ve kidnapped some circus performers from shows on the Strip, will make them perform, and then decide whether they get to stay in Jack’s circus or if Jack will slay them.
She chooses four victims volunteers from the crowd to act as deciding voters. The action and audience then move to the Slay Stage for “circus tricks and carnage,” as Chance yells at everyone to “Get off your drunk a**es and follow us!”

More of Jack’s Maniacs dance as the original “victim” cowers in a corner of the stage. Jack returns, gleeful to watch “these poor sad souls perform for their lives!”
Contestant #1, on a raised area to the side, performs an evocative dance routine with spinning flags set to Pandora by 2WEI and Edda Hayes. Jack invites the audience’s reaction, the says Contestant #2 (the original victim) is “dying to perform.” Contestant #2 then performs a breakdance routine to a slowed-down cover of Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy.
As one important note, it appears the exact performances in this section rotate depending on the day and time. On the multiple visits when we watched the show, there were some different acts in place of these two.
Chance asks the audience if they want to see the contestants perform again, cueing another dance number with all the Maniacs and the contestants as Jack lords over the chaos.
Now “it’s time for the best part!” as the four volunteers are brought onstage to act as “judge, jury, and executioner.” They are each handed double-sided “Stay or Slay” signs — however, the T in “Stay” has been covered with a large red, scrawled L, so there’s really only one option.
As expected, each contestant is paraded above, the volunteers cast their unanimous votes of “Slay, Slay, Slay, Slay!” and Jack’s Maniacs happily oblige. Chance yells at the volunteers to get off the stage, and the crazy clown couple depart to “paint the town red” with a resounding “Hell yeah Jack!”
