Disney World App Updated to Remove Star Wars Launch Bay & Most of Animation Courtyard

My Disney Experience now reflects the closure of Star Wars Launch Bay and the Disney Jr. Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Updated MDE Map

Map showing "The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure" near The Hollywood Brown Derby in Animation Courtyard, surrounded by greenery.

The new online map in the My Disney Experience app has a much smaller area for Animation Courtyard. Star Wars Launch Bay and the Disney Jr. theater are now missing from the image.

Both of these locations are now permanently closed to make way for the Walt Disney Studios lot, which is inspired by the real studio lot in Burbank, California. Take a final look at the area, which guests have enjoyed for the past ten years.

The building for The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is still shown on the map. Here is a before and after showing the changes:

The Magic of Disney Animation

The Magic of Disney Animation will return, which will replace Star Wars Launch Bay. Ironically, Star Wars Launch Bay replaced the original The Magic of Disney Animation. It offered a behind-the-scenes look at the Disney Feature Animation studio attached to the park.

When The Magic of Disney Animation returns next year, it will be a “place where kids and kids at heart can laugh, draw, dream, and explore animated new experiences.” It is inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ short film Once Upon A Studio. There will be interactive elements, character meet and greets, Animation Academy, and an Alice in Wonderland-inspired playground.

As for the Disney Jr. Theater, a new Disney Jr. show will replace Disney Jr. Play and Dance! This area will also receive a fresh look to make way for new experiences.
