“The Tom” is the latest dance sensation on the Disney Destiny, when he was chosen to participate in the Treble-Making with Cruella show in De Vil’s piano lounge.
Treble-Making with Cruella
This show at De Vil’s piano lounge is the perfect example of great entertainment on the ship. The premise is that Cruella needs a new song written about her, and the guests in the lounge are the ones to do just that. So, how does the show play out?
First, Zayah and Gamble enter the lounge, and piano player begins with the main Cruella de Vil song from 101 Dalmatians.
Cruella comes in and interrupts the piano player because the infamous song being played is about her. She is grief stricken because the song is written by Roger, who betrayed her. The song has ruined her good name, and the solution is to write a new song. Cruella insists the guests write her a new song that she will love in just 10 minutes.
The piano player is “tied down” and they start with a jazz number, and Zayah and Gamble begin asking guests to help write the song. They provide prompts based on the answers they receive. Everyone in the lounge is an active participant through a completely improvised song writing process.
A first verse and chorus are created, and then the lounge is divided up into paparazzi and a VIP club to hype her up when she comes in. A choreographer is also needed, and WDWNT’s Tom was chosen! He suggested throwing his arms out wide during the song when Cruella’s name is mentioned. Gamble joked that it’s like throwing it away and nicknamed this move “The Tom.” So, whenever they sing her name in the song they have to recreate Tom’s move.
The group practices the number one more time before Cruella comes back in to see what was created. Of course, she loves the new song!
The great thing about this entertainment offering is that no two performances are ever the same because the songs are different each time based on the answers from the crowd. Cruella loves the song, especially “The Tom.”
