Former Disney studio executive Karen Glass, who helped make The Princess Diaries, has passed away at age 63. Glass died on Monday, December 22 at UCLA Medical Center from complications with pancreatic cancer.

Glass worked for The Walt Disney Company from 1989 to 2006. She first joined the Buena Vista Television marketing team. She then moved to Buena Vista Pictures Distribution and later Buena Vista Pictures Marketing, where she became executive director of national promotions.
She bought The Princess Diaries book for Disney and insisted they hire Julie Andrews. She also worked on The Princess Diaries 2, Freaky Friday (2003), Tuck Everlasting, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and Ice Princess, on which she was executive producer.
After her tenure at Disney, she produced several holiday films, including Same Time, Next Christmas and most recently A Pickleball Christmas.
Her obituary states, “Karen’s always been interested in everyone around her, outgoing and engaged, warm and funny. She has a devoted group of longtime friends. Her son – Zach – was the center of her world.”
In addition to her son Zachary Sean Barry, Karen is survived by her brother and radio personality Ira Glass, sister Randi Glass Murray, their spouses David Meckel and Susanna Fogel, her stepmother Sandy Glass, nephews Sam and Ben Murray, and uncle Bennett Politzer.
