The construction site for Piston Peak and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom is being cleared out to make way for the new themed lands.
Site Clearing

Recent aerial photos from @bioreconstruct have showcased the site clearing underway for both Piston Peak and the unnamed Villains land at Magic Kingdom.

The former Rivers of America has been completely filled, while the shape of Tom Sawyer’s Island is still visible in the construction area, albeit with sand and what might be gravel taking its place.

The area meant for Piston Peak appears to have been completely cleared, with several large pieces of machinery visible in the pictures.

The land stretches from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to the Haunted Mansion.

A similar story can be told at the site for Villains Land, where a large patch of dirt marks where the future land will be.

The clearing for Villains Land stretches all the way back to behind “it’s a small world.”

Some other developments can be seen from the air when it comes to what will be the backstage area.

The arrow points to a tunnel that connects new ponds for water management. A video including some angles of the pictures can be found here.

Recently, totem poles along the former banks of the Rivers of America were removed. An exhibit was recently installed at Walt Disney Presents featuring some artwork for Piston Peak. For a ground view, check out our previous update.
Piston Peak

The Cars area will be called Piston Peak National Park, inspired by real-life national parks, particularly the Rocky Mountains. Sightlines will be maintained with architecture gradually becoming “Car-itecture” within the Cars-themed space.
There will be a large geyser, water features, barrel bridges, and two attractions. One is a rally race ride, the other will be more family-friendly. A new original car character pays homage to classic Disney cartoons.
Disney Villains Land

Not much information has been released about the Disney Villains Land, but we know it will have two major attractions, shopping, and dining. Disney animator Andreas Deja is consulting on the project.
Disney shared a behind-the-scenes look at inspirational architecture and a list of villains inspiring the land, which includes Yzma. The concept art is mostly inspired by Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent, including her dragon form in the background.
