Updated Interactive Targets Installed at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Visible From PeopleMover in Walt Disney World

We just got our first in-person look at the updated interactive targets for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. They are visible from the PeopleMover attraction.

The attraction has been closed since August for a major overhaul, which includes new vehicles, blasters, and targets. The reimagined ride will open in the spring of 2026. Below is a quick re-cap of the changes Disney has planned:

  • New scene: At the beginning of the attraction, guests will be introduced to Buddy, a support-bot whose job it is to make sure all Space Rangers are ready to go. Guests will have a chance for target practice — including some of the new, interactive features.
  • New ride vehicles: The updated Star Cruisers will have a new look inspired by Star Command, as well as video monitors with real-time scoring and “other exciting features.”

  • New blasters: The new handheld devices feature an always-on laser to help with aim and have new light, sound, and haptic effects.
  • Interactive targets: The old Z-targets are being updated to interact with the blasters, with each hit triggering lighting effects and more. Further interactivity was teased, with the announcement saying that these new targets “open the door for a few other ideas Imagineers have in mind.”

Guests riding the PeopleMover will be able to see three of the new targets. They light up, making them visible through the black scrim over the viewing windows above the ride.

You can make out the lights of the three targets in the screenshot below:

In this alternate view, you can also see a line of lighted targets through the scrim.

PeopleMover is a 10-minute tour of Tomorrowland, taking guests through attractions like Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.

Visitors at the Magic Kingdom enjoy a thrilling ride while clutching their toy prizes, set against a vibrant, space-themed backdrop filled with planets and rockets. It feels like they're on Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, surrounded by playful aliens.
