Disney shared a video of Disney Legend and former Imagineer Bob Gurr reflecting on 70 years of Disneyland. Gurr joined Disney before the opening of Disneyland and designed the Autopia ride vehicles.

As he describes in the video (below), he drove an Autopia car in the opening day parade of Disneyland on July 17, 1955.
“It’s been my honor to share my memories with you, what it was like 70 years ago,” Gurr said. “I want you to come to Disneyland and enjoy the 70th. You will never find the park more beautiful than it is today.”
Gurr also designed the Main Street vehicles, Haunted Mansion Doom Buggies, Disneyland Monorails, Submarine Voyage, and Matterhorn Bobsleds. He worked on the Abraham Lincoln Audio-Animatronic figure for the 1964 World’s Fair. He retired from Disney in 1981 and was honored as Disney Legend in 2004.
Two years ago, Disneyland confirmed a plan to switch Autopia from gasoline cars to fully electric vehicles, a project that Gurr supports. Disney stated at the time the switch would be complete by fall 2026 although there has been no more news.
