Porthole Railings Installed on the Disney Dream, Likely in Response to Child Falling Overboard

On a recent sailing aboard the Disney Dream, we noticed new railings installed in front of the portholes on Deck 4. We suspect this is in response to the child who fell overboard in June 2025.

New Railings Installed on the Disney Dream

In June 2025, a child fell overboard while sailing on the Disney Dream. She and her father (who had jumped into the ocean after her) were promptly rescued. Details regarding the incident reveal that the child was sitting on the railing in front of a porthole window and fell backwards. Her mother thought the porthole had a glass barrier, similar to other areas on the ship. The parents will not be facing neglect charges, as it was ruled to be an accidental and isolated incident.

The porthole where the child fell from is on Deck 4, also known as the promenade deck. There are large porthole windows for guests to view the ocean all along the sides of the ship. On a recent sailing aboard the Disney Dream, we noticed new railings had been installed. The new barriers are set about a foot or two away from the portholes, and there is plexiglass below the wood railings. The portholes are still open.

For reference, this is what the railings used to look like last year:

Previously, the wood railings were right up against the open portholes.
