CEO Announcement Missing From Shareholder Call – Disney Close to Picking D’Amaro as Next CEO

A CEO announcement could have come alongside the release of Disney’s earnings report for Q1 2026 this morning, but that announcement was missing during today’s earnings call.

According to Bloomberg, the board of Walt Disney Co. will vote on naming Bob Iger’s replacement in the coming week and is aligning on promoting Josh D’Amaro, theme-park division chairman, to the role of chief executive officer.

This upcoming appointment will conclude the three-year CEO search led by Disney Chairman James Gorman, which began in 2024.

Josh D’Amaro remains the frontrunner

According to a New York Times article we reported on January 30, Disney Experiences chairperson Josh D’Amaro remains the frontrunner. D’Amaro is up against Dana Walden, co-chair of Disney Entertainment. Her fellow co-chair, Alan Bergman and head of ESPN Jimmy Pitaro have also been considered in the running.

CEO Bob Iger’s contract will be up at the end of 2026. Disney has previously stated they would announce a CEO early this year.
