Cinderella Castle Moat Almost Drained at Magic Kingdom

The Cinderella Castle moat at Magic Kingdom is nearly drained enough to allow crew members to get closer to the castle for repainting. Draining began on Wednesday morning, February 4, and continued rapidly throughout the day.

Water levels are low now, leaving dirt and debris washed up on the concrete banks of the moat. There are two pumps for draining, one on the Tomorrowland side and one on the Liberty Square side. There are dams in the water so the moat doesn’t have to be completely drained.

Once the water is drained from around the castle, crew members and vehicles will be able to get closer to the sides for repainting. They have already begun painting a section near the back of the castle. The pink top half of the castle will be restored to its former gray color.

We also noticed that the water features around the Tomorrowland bridge have been turned off.

Disney announced the castle repainting project in the summer of 2025. The icon received its current color scheme in 2020/2021 for the park’s 50th anniversary.

Because to the construction work, Happily Ever After has been modified, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire is performing only in the afternoons and without pyrotechnics, and Let the Magic Begin is audio only.
