Crews Prepare to Paint Grizzly River Run During Refurbishment

It looks like crew members are getting ready to refresh the paint of Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure. Plastic tarps now cover several props and themed elements.

The ride was drained soon after it closed for work. There is scaffolding and catwalks along the track for crew members to safely traverse the attraction. In this area, panels and tarps are taped down inside the flume.

Several log elements and rocks along the edge of the track are also wrapped in tarps. This protects them as crews paint other areas in different colors.

In these photos, you can also see two mesh tubes, which we noticed in our last construction update. These appear to be bases for new fake logs. The “logs” are supported by short posts so that when the flume is full of water, they appear to be floating or sitting on the riverbank.

We didn’t see a lot of activity during our Thursday visit, but two crew members in all white — traditionally what painters wear — were getting ready in a staging area with tool boxes.

We’ve already seen signs of paintwork on the ride’s exterior.

Disneyland has not announced a reopening date for Grizzly River Run. It’s normal for water rides to close for maintenance in the winter, but this appears to be a more extensive refurbishment than usual.
