Dana Walden’s priorities in her new position as President and Chief Creative Officer of The Walt Disney Company will include incorporating AI into movie production and improving streaming profits.
Dana Walden President Priorities
Walden will officially take up her new position on March 18, the same day Josh D’Amaro will take over as Disney CEO. Former Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman led the search for the new CEO as chairman of Disney’s board of directors.
Variety asked Gorman what Walden’s key areas of focus will be. Though Gorman said he “will let Dana speak for herself when she gets settled in the job,” he did list the “obvious” priorities of “how AI is incorporated into movie production, how to continue to generate the kinds of margins that others in the industry have across streaming,” and ensuring storytelling remains in all aspects of the company.
Her job as Chief Creative Officer for the whole company, we’d like to ensure that that storytelling goes to all aspects of the company, through our merchandise, through our parks experiences, through our cruises, not just in theaters and and on streaming channels. So, I think she’ll be a great partner for Josh. I think Dana’s a fabulous executive. And it’s just reminding everybody that the heart and center of this company is the magical experiences that we create.

Walden is currently the co-chairperson of Disney Entertainment with Alan Bergman. She has been in charge of streaming but her newly-created position will also put her in charge of film and TV production. Disney has not yet announced if someone else will take over her Disney Entertainment role.
