Walt Disney World is planning an expansion to the Magic Kingdom ferryboat dock, according to an application filed with the South Florida Water Management District. The plans also include a floodplain compensation area.

Magic Kingdom Ferryboat Dock Expansion

The project covers the dock outside Magic Kingdom, not at the Transportation and Ticket Center. The floodplain compensation area would be along Seven Seas Lagoon past the bus stops. Though the project area includes a significant amount of space in front of the park’s entrance, the dock itself only accounts for a small section.

In the plans above, the expanded dock is the zig-zagging lines on the bottom left side of the image. The expansion would also include a larger waiting area for the ferryboats.

Ferryboats are one of two transportation systems guests use to travel from the Transportation and Ticket Center to Magic Kingdom. The other offering is the Monorail.

In 2021, Disney added second-level ramps for quicker unloading of the ferryboats. Guests still all board on the first level.

Currently, there are three ferryboats: the Admiral Joe Fowler, Richard F. Irvine, and General Joe Potter. We reported a few years ago on rumors that Disney would add a fourth ferryboat with the expansions to Magic Kingdom.
