The next Pirates of the Caribbean film is in a “horse race” with the next Top Gun flick, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Pirates of the Caribbean vs. Top Gun 3

Following the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 sequel to the 1986 Top Gun, a third film in the series is a “hair ahead” of a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean. Bruckheimer is “expecting a script shortly” for Top Gun 3, he told Entertainment Tonight.
But Pirates of the Caribbean hasn’t been forgotten. Bruckheimer said there have been continued conversations with Margot Robbie, who would play a new character in a potential reboot of the franchise.

The last Pirates of the Caribbean film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in 2017 and talk of a sixth film has been ongoing since. The last major update came in 2024, when Bruckheimer said there were two Pirates films in development. One penned by Dead Men Tell No Tales writer Jeff Nathanson would be a reboot but could feature an appearance by Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. Screenwriter Christina Hodson is handling the Margot Robbie project.
