After we reported on a visible crack in Gertie the Dinosaur’s tail, the life-size statue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been patched up.

The crack was where Gertie’s tail meets her body (the rest of her tail jutting from the water is actually a separate piece). It was made more obvious after nearby vegetation was removed due to Florida’s recent freezing temperatures.

The crack has been patched up although there is a visible color difference where the crack was. It’s possible with time, this will dry and fade or crews might paint over it to better match the rest of Gertie.

Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction has stood in Echo Lake since the park originally opened as Disney-MGM Studios in 1989. The iconic green brontosaurus is based on the 1914 short film character Gertie the Dinosaur, the first-ever animated dinosaur, created by Winsor McCay.
