In another clip from his interview on In-Depth with Graham Bensinger, former Disney CEO Michael Eisner shared three key areas he kept close tabs on during his tenure.
Michael Eisner on the Benefits of Micromanagement

Another clip has been publicly released from the recent Graham Besinger interview with former Disney CEO Michael Eisner.
In this new clip, Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney, shares insights on leadership, patience, and decision-making in the entertainment industry.
Of note to Disney Parks fans, Eisner addressed some historic criticisms of him being a “micromanager.” He clarified that, while it’s impossible to micromanage 100,000 employees, he did micromanage areas related to “taste.” The three areas he cited within his overall purview of the company included:
- Theme park designs
- ABC’s programming schedule
- Architecture
In Eisner’s opinion, a CEO should be a micromanager in these specific areas, picking their points of focus carefully and catering to this element of “taste” within a company’s overall profile.
Eisner also provides several anecdotes about Marty Davis, Robert Redford, and Barry Dillard, covering a range of topics including compensation, company culture and in-fighting.
Elsewhere in the full interview, Eisner made comments regarding Josh D’Amaro’s ascension to CEO, as well as his critique of current theme park pricing structures. You can check out the latest clip on YouTube below.
