With so many projects happening at once around Walt Disney World, it can be hard to keep up with all of the progress, but thanks to @biorecunstruct on X, we have regular aerial updates of all the progress, including that for Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Monstropolis Construction Progress

Just beyond the rock work facades of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, work continues on the area that will be home to a Monsters, Inc. door roller coaster. It appears that a sand base for a new park perimeter road is in progress around the future show building.

Currently, there are multiple levels to the progress, including concrete poured over sand, conduits, rebar, and footers. The initial slab of concrete was poured in December. In mid-January, following that first slab, a layer of engineered fill was spread that completely covered the entire first layer of concrete.

Now that the foundation system is almost complete, we will likely see vertical construction for the coaster’s show building in the coming days.

The coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and vertical lift coaster. The model for the coaster was revealed at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024. Guests will access the ride from the queue in the sections in the foreground.

While obtaining these aerial photos, @bioreconstruct caught crew members preparing rebar for the next section of foundation concrete.

Some components of the electrical conduit have been buried in sand as work continues on the foundational elements.

Another aerial photo of Monstropolis shows scaffolding starting to rise on what will be The Glob Theater, marked for the new land. New cutouts have appeared in the brick on the front and sides of the building that formerly housed MuppetVision 3D. This is likely to make space for new theming elements to be added to the facade. See the concept art below:

The concept art shows green monster-inspired trim and decorations on the theater. New faux windows on the building make it look like the theater is up against a series of apartments.
