Universal Backtracks on Epic Universe Expansion Announcement

NBCUniversal has corrected a press release from the past week, clarifying that Epic Universe is not strictly “expanding.”

NBCUniversal Retracts Epic Universe “Expanding” Statement

Earlier this week, NBCUniversal shared a press release lauding its portfolio of media and themed experiences as they mark their 100th anniversary in 2026.

Part of that original release described Universal’s Epic Universe as “expanding” by, a comment nested in the context of broader development in its themed experiences space.

The original text in question read:

NBCUniversal continues to scale immersive experiences as one of only two global media companies with a theme parks division. This includes expanding Universal Epic Universe, developing a new theme park in the United Kingdom — the company’s first in Europe— and introducing new formats including its first Universal Kids Resort and year-round horror experiences in Chicago and Las Vegas.

Universal has since adjusted this text on the press release page to omit the word “expanding”. The updated text now reads:

NBCUniversal continues to scale immersive experiences as one of only two global media companies with a theme parks division. This includes Universal Epic Universe, developing a new theme park in the United Kingdom — the company’s first in Europe— and introducing new formats including its first Universal Kids Resort and year-round horror experiences in Chicago and Las Vegas.

The change is notable given that, before the correction, this press release marked the first official instance of Universal specifically stating that Epic Universe would be “expanding” in any capacity – a word choice that would have suggested plans for expansion at the new park may have reached more certain terms.

When Comcast released its fourth-quarter 2025 earnings late last month, it included $2.9 billion in revenue for Universal theme parks. This is up 22% from Q4 2024, thanks to Epic Universe.

Universal’s leadership has talked about ongoing development and hinted at future work for the park, but nothing concrete has been revealed yet.

Executives have previously noted that Epic Universe will continue to receive attention and investment, and creative teams have suggested that there’s room for more storytelling and experiences. However, the company has not yet publicly announced any official expansion projects or confirmed what those additions might be or when they’ll arrive.

Epic Universe currently consists of five “portals”: Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
