Disney is Almost Ready for ‘Walt Disney Studios’ Sign Installation at Hollywood Studios

Disney has filed another permit for a new “The Walt Disney Studios” sign coming to Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The courtyard is getting a studio-inspired makeover and will reopen this summer.

The permit is for the address of the former Disney’s Hollywood Studios archway, which was torn down soon after the courtyard closed for construction. The first permit Walt Disney Imagineering filed for this space contracted Design Communications Ltd. to “Install Signage.” Imagineering then filed a permit for “Electrical work” at the location.

The new permit was filed by technical directors for Disney Live Entertainment rather than Imagineers. It contracts Jon Richards Company to “Fabricate and Install sign Marquee.”

Because the permits were filed by different Disney divisions and contract different companies, it’s possible they are actually for different signs in the same area. Or one may be related to the base while another is for the lettering.

Only one sign is visible in the concept art, pictured above. The electrical work is likely related to the built-in lights on the structure.

As usual, the permit expires in one year.

The Walt Disney Studios & The Magic of Disney Animation

The courtyard’s reimagining will turn it into The Walt Disney Studios lot based on the real studios in Burbank, California. Star Wars: Launch Bay closed permanently last year and will be replaced by a new version of The Magic of Disney Animation — the opening-day attraction that Star Wars: Launch Bay replaced a decade ago.

The Magic of Disney Animation will be inspired by Once Upon A Studio, a short film that honored 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. Guests will enter a studio just as the animators have left and the characters have begun to come to life. Guests will be able to watch the short film in a theater at the attraction.

There will be a new Animation Academy experience hosted by Olaf (instead of live artists) called Olaf Draws! Guests will be able to meet characters at six new meet and greets. A playground will be inspired by Mary Blair’s Alice in Wonderland concept art.

Next door will be a new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse stage show. The courtyard outside will have more grass space, a giant sorcerer hat, and characters.
