Disneyland’s resident leprechaun, Patrick Begorra, has once again festooned his Adventureland home for St. Patrick’s Day.

As the 1955 Little Golden Book Little Man of Disneyland tells it, the leprechaun Patrick Begorra was a longtime inhabitant of an orange tree in the area of Anaheim until one day Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy showed up with plans to build “a wonderful place called Disneyland.”

Begorra is unmoved, so the friends take him to the Disney Studios via helicopter (Walt’s preferred mode of travel for the same commute!) and show him actual illustrations and concept art for Disneyland. The leprechaun agrees to let them build the park on one condition: that he’ll always have a home there.

To this day, Patrick Begorra resides in a “wee snug house” in Adventureland. His original abode during the early years of Disneyland was located near the Jungle Cruise, but was eventually removed during Adventureland renovations decades later.

When the Little Man of Disneyland book was reprinted in 2015, Patrick’s home was rebuilt, albeit in a different tree. Normally, his little tree home is understated and visible only to eagle-eyed guests. But, being a leprechaun, he naturally celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, and that’s when everyone can easily spot his home in all its splendor.

Patrick Begorra’s Home

Patrick Begorra’s current home is tucked among the roots of a tree in a planter between the entrances to the Adventureland Treehouse and Indiana Jones Adventure.

It consists of a tiny door with a lantern, a teardrop-shaped window, and a small pipe chimney, and without his bright St. Paddy’s decor, it’s easy to see how his house remains discreet even within the hustle and bustle of daily park activity.

Patrick has added a little green doormat in front of his entryway, as well as a green bow with a tiny metallic shamrock above the door.

His chimney is wrapped in glittering green and gold tinsel with more shiny shamrocks.

A twisted rainbow ribbon cascading down from the tree leads to a miniature pot of gold under his window.

Patrick Begorra can be found outside of Adventureland, too. In the queue for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Toontown, you’ll see that the condiment pumps at the El CapiTOON Theater are from “Begorra Orchards.” This reference is only in the Disneyland version of the attraction.

Patrick also starred in a sequel to his original story, Little Man of Disneyland: A Change of Luck, released in 2023, in which the leprechaun explores the worlds of the Storybook Land Canal Boats.
