REVIEW: 'Luca'-Themed Taverna Portorosso Sports Bar on the Disney Adventure

Taverna Portorosso is a sports bar aboard the Disney Adventure cruise ship, themed after the Pixar movie Luca. It’s on Deck 11, Aft near Palo Trattoria.

Grab a seat at this welcoming sports bar, the perfect spot to cheer on your team while enjoying the spirit of the Italian Riviera. Brought to life by the Disney and Pixar film Luca, this intimate spot offers stunning views, your favorite drinks, and all the big games on screen. Whimsical details, like an iconic red motor scooter parked inside, will have you feeling bellissimo in this breezy slice of Italian paradise.

Similarly, as you descend the stairs, it looks as though you are going back into the ocean as the town of Portorossa shines beyond on the wall mural.

The space has many Riviera-inspired pieces of decor—including glass jars and this Mickey-shaped artist palette with a Hidden Mickey inside. You’ll be able to see more decor in our YouTube video at the end of this post.

More decor speaks to the taverna’s location in Italy as well as its lived-in feeling. Decorative plates adorn the walls, and empty green and blue bottles and jugs are situated on a sideboard, and a smattering of framed art is scattered on the walls.

Decor throughout references details from the film, including a sign for Circolo Pescatori, and images or newspaper clipipngs of the ocean “Monstro.”

Rustic theming carries on throughout, even with the signage seen on the walls. Here we saw two beverage ads that appear to have been there for ages. One reads “Bevete Chinotto,” which translates to “Drink Chinotto,” an Italian citrus soft drink. The other says “Limone Fresco,” which translates to “Fresh Lemon.”

On the wall, there is a blue fish sign that reads “Pescheria Marcovaldo.” This is a reference to the fish shop in Luca that had scenes that took place inside it, which were ultimately cut. Beside it, parked on the floor, is a cherry red Vespa like the one in Luca and Alberto’s dreams.

On the opposite wall are more fishing motifs, including well-worn boat paddles.

At the bar, sports are often on the screen between the organized liquor shelving. The large, dark wood bar has filigree design work on the front, hidden by light wood, low-backed stools.

Tan cushioned booths also have individual TV screens as well. Each booth is separated by a thick wooden section.

Each of these wooden sections, which appear to serve as equipment storage, has an octopus emblem on it.

The taverna’s seating area has a range of options. Some tables have lightly cushioned chairs without arms, while others have more heavily cushioned chairs with arms. There are also lounge chairs and booths in addition to the bar seating.

Some of the seating can see monstrous silhouettes along the wall from the nearby Mike and Sulley’s Flavors of Asia.

That view is fitting as motifs in the taverna itself allude even more to the existence of Monstro, the unknown sea creature. This tilework shows a fisherman harpooning Monstro on the side.

Full Menu

The menu is shaped like a Vespa, which is featured prominently in Luca. The back has a license plate with “DCL 125″—a reference to the Disney Adventure’s hull number. They serve a variety of nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages, as well as some specialties.

Our Review

Side-Car – $12

Absolut Pears | Bottega Limoncino | Grappa | Lemon

'Luca'-Themed Taverna Portorosso Sports Bar Side-Car drink on the Disney Adventure

This drink is very sweet for something that has grappa in it. It’s very well hidden. We mostly taste the pear and the limoncino. It tastes almost like a licorice candy, which is dangerous and may have you doing something unfortunate on a Vespa. However, the sweetness is also balanced out with the tartness, so it’s an excellent combination. Overall, we loved it.

946 – $16

Angel’s Envy Bourbon | Campari | Carpano Antica Formula | Strawberry Clarified using dairy products

'Luca'-Themed Taverna Portorosso Sports Bar 946 drink on the Disney Adventure

The 946 has a flavor profile unlike any cocktail we’ve had at a Disney establishment before. It’s weird, but good-weird, not bad-weird. The drink tastes like an Old Fashioned if it were hit with Campari, and surprisingly, it works really well. It has a sweetness but also a bitterness, which may not work for everyone. We liked it a lot, though.

Rating out of 7: 5

150 Special – $12

Amaretto Disaronno | Campari Clarified using dairy products

This drink is very similar to the 946 because of the Campari, which makes it bitter. We noticed hints of citrus, but overall, this was an average drink.

Snack Mix

'Luca'-Themed Taverna Portorosso Sports Bar snack mix on the Disney Adventure

There is also a complimentary snack mix here, consisting of chocolate chips, banana chips, raisins, and either popcorn or caramelized pecans. It was half melted by the time we tried it because the space is partly outdoors, and the weather is really warm in Singapore right now—so warm, in fact, that our table had a small fan!
