Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) reunited at the Academy Awards last night in time for the 14th anniversary of The Avengers.

The pair presented Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. While Downey Jr. began to talk about screenplays, Evans interrupted to ask what he got him for their anniversary.
“It’s the 14th anniversary of our first Avengers movie,” Evans explained. “I got you a signed copy of the original script, signed by the whole cast, it’s backstage. See, I really thought this through.”
As Downey Jr. floundered, Evans said, “You didn’t get me bupkis, I know you, Downey.”
Downey Jr. then presented Evans with his valet parking ticket.
“You self drove?” Evans asked.
“I did, I’m a man of the people,” said Downey.
They then finished presenting the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay, which went to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another.
After Anderson’s acceptance speech, Evans returned to stage alone. Downey Jr. rushed up a moment later, explaining, “I was just joshing you, of course I got you something.”
He pulled shiny thong from his pocket. “I got you the official Channing Tatum thong from Magic Mike. It’s sequin. It’s got, like, a mirror ball effect.”
Evans stared at the gift and said, “I have no words…”
Channing Tatum, who played Gambit in Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine, then cut in from the audience. “Hey, I’m gonna need that back, though!”
“For what?” asked Downey Jr.
“I gotta work later, bro,” responded Tatum.
They then finished presenting Best Original Screenplay, which went to Ryan Coogler for Sinners.
Downey wore a green suit — maybe in reference to his upcoming role as Dr. Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Evans will return as Steve Rogers and Tatum will return as Gambit. Doomsday will be in theaters on December 18, 2026.
