BDX Droids Coming to Fortnite, First-Ever Disney Parks Original Characters in Game

BDX droids, which originated at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, will arrive in Fortnite on May 1 with the new Droid Tycoon game.

Three New Star Wars Fortnite Games

Earlier this year, Epic Games launched the Star Wars toolkit in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), giving users the ability to build their own Star Wars games with licensed assets. Starting May 1, hundreds of these islands will go live.

Epic Games previewed three starter islands they developed with Disney using the UEFN tools: Droid Tycoon, Galactic Siege, and Escape Vader.

Droid Tycoon will introduce the BDX droids, Fortnite’s first original Disney Parks characters. Created with FOAD, the island code is 7865-8305-9184. Users can build and customize droids using authentic Star Wars blueprints, manage a workshop and factory systems, and unlock rare components and special missions.

In Galactic Siege (developed with JOGO Studios, island code: 5003-9856-3648), users fight in large-scale PvP class-based battles with 10v10 combat across iconic Star Wars planets.

Escape Vader (made with Beyond Creative, island code: 7285-4185-5428) is a horror game in which users hide, run, and try to survive Darth Vader. It’s a 4-player co-op game.

Sean Shoptaw, executive VP of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment said, “Star Wars continues to be one of the most powerful and enduring franchises in entertainment, and this year represents an extraordinary moment for fans around the world. With new stories, new characters, and new ways to experience the galaxy, we’re expanding the universe in ways that feel both fresh and deeply connected to what audiences’ love. The momentum across games, streaming, and immersive experiences is incredibly exciting, and we’re just beginning to tap into what’s possible for the future of Star Wars.” (via Variety)

Andre Balta, Senior Director, Game Development, Fortnite, said, “Star Wars took over Fortnite. We took all those amazing assets, the vehicles, the weapons, and decided to open that up to our Fortnite development community. Every game developer has a Star Wars story they’ve always wanted to sell. Now any eligible creator can build assets in Fortnite and ship a Star Wars game.”

Balta added, “Disney and Lucasfilm approached this with a very developer focused mindset. We didn’t have a ton of restrictions on lore and brand rules. They really came from a position of ‘How do we give creators the Ultimate Star Wars toolbox?'”

New Star Wars Quests will start rolling out on May 1, and every week in May. Complete them in any Star Wars games to earn free rewards.

Shop, LEGO, and Account Linking Updates

New and returning Star Wars Outfits and items will be rotating through the Shop all month long.

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey gets its own Star Wars update on May 14 with the new Hover Brick, hover vehicles, Mando and Grogu, and Star Wars enemies.
