Do-Re-Mi-Fa-mous Dapper Dans and Their Melodious Story at Disney Parks

In honor of National Barbershop Quartet Day today, April 11, we wanted to highlight the Dapper Dans—Walt Disney World and Disneyland’s quartet of songsters.

History

Before the Dapper Dans (or just the Dappers), another barbershop quartet appeared at Disneyland Park in 1957. At the time, Four Guys and a Girl was the park's singing group. That is, until a quartet of college men was brought on and the Dapper Dans were officially formed in 1960, according to Disney Parks Blog.

At Walt Disney World, the Dappers have been part of the scene at Magic Kingdom since the first day. They’ve been at both parks ever since, serving up tunes and smiles throughout the day.

Performance Times

If you want to check them out in person, they perform throughout the morning and the afternoon. These a capella singers perform 20-minute sets of both American standards and Disney classics. Some of their go-tos include "Main Street, U.S.A.," "Lida Rose," and "When You Wish Upon a Star."

Cadaver Dans

For Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, even the Dappers can't help but get into the spirit. That's when they transform into the Cadaver Dans, a quartet of undead a capella singers. They're found over in Frontierland, not far from the Country Bear Musical Jamboree.

International Dapper Dans

Disney Parks Blog

While you can always find the Dappers performing at Disney Parks in the United States, they aren’t at the international parks anymore. There used to be a group known as The Main Street Quartet at Disneyland Paris. They were part of the park’s opening as EuroDisney in 1992, but stopped performing in 1995. Likewise, the quartet at Hong Kong Disneyland began in 2005 and stopped in 2008.

Merchandise

The Dappers are so beloved that they even get their own merchandise from time to time. Actors may come and go, but the appearance of the Dappers remains an integral part of many park guests’ visits. There have been pins, Loungefly bags, outfits, Funko Pops, and so many different ways for fans to cherish their memory of the Dappers.
