Bloomberg reports that Epic Games is currently working on a Disney-themed extraction shooter, one of three games being developed as part of the studios’ $1.5 billion partnership.
Disney Extraction Shooter
The news originates from Bloomberg but is also being reported by multiple gaming industry outlets. The game apparently shares gameplay and mechanics very similar to the post-apocalyptic multiplayer shooter Arc Raiders, but will feature playable Disney characters.
According to anonymous sources, internal reviews of the game aren’t glowing, but the extraction shooter is apparently “the most promising of the three Epic is developing.” The second concept had a lukewarm reception, while resources were actually cut from the third project “after reports that Disney was disappointed by Epic’s release timeline.”
The project is rumored to launch in November 2026, but it is currently unknown whether this shooter will be a standalone game or a new mode in Fortnite. Disney and Epic have already collaborated on multiple Fortnite projects, including Disneyland Game Rush (which included a first-person shooter mini-game) and a Camp Half-Blood island inspired by season two of Percy Jackson & the Olympians.
Both Disney and Epic have issued statements in response to Bloomberg‘s reporting. Liz Markham, Epic Games’ Senior Director of Global Communications, said that the claims were “not reflective of the ambitions of the Disney collaboration,” while a Disney spokesperson provided the following:
We remain focused on our long-term collaboration with Epic, which continues to have strong momentum, and our work to build a transformational games and entertainment universe remains unchanged.
Disney and Epic Games Partnership

Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games in February 2024. The recent restructuring and expansion of Disney Entertainment includes the current partnership with Epic Games. Under the leadership of new president and chief creative officer Dana Walden, the partnership is shifting from Experiences to the Entertainment division. Sean Shoptaw, Executive Vice President of Games and Digital Entertainment, is instrumental in Disney’s ongoing collaboration with Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite.

The partnership has proved especially fruitful, with Shoptaw citing the storytelling potential of Fortnite as a key avenue to connect with younger audiences during a SXSW 2026 panel. Along with the game modes, Disney has also released a plethora of cosmetics in Fortnite, most recently Toy Story bundles, Tsum Tsum blings, and Hoppers skins. Disney also teased a Hercules crossover.

After Epic Games announced last month that it was laying off 1,000 employees as part of a new cost-saving measure, the company restated its commitment to the Disney deal.
