First Pieces of Sassagoula River Wall Installed at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

Crews have started installing a new boundary wall along the Sassagoula River at Walt Disney World after we first saw work in mid-March. They are tearing down the old wall and then installing the new, more durable wall.

According to the captain of our Sassagoula River Cruise boat, the entire 3+ mile wall will be replaced. Work started on the narrowest part of the canal but boat service has not been interrupted.

The tops of the metal barriers along the above bank have been removed, leaving the lower part bowing in different directions. Much of the grass has also been removed.

Further down, we have our first look at the brand-new wall. As you can see, it's a little taller than the old wall.

The floating yellow turbidity barriers minimize sediment transport and protect the bank from erosion, plus reduce the likelihood that construction materials and debris will enter the waterway.

A group of crew members was securing part of the new wall as we sailed past. An excavator was used to move dirt out of the way.

Further down, part of the new wall has been topped off with flat pieces. More of those flat elements awaited installation nearby.

Our captain said the project is expected to take between 3 and 5 years.

Sassagoula River runs beside Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa with boat service to and from Disney Springs, Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts (Riverside and French Quarter), and Old Key West Resort.
