Cake Bake Shop Lawsuits Pile Up As Disney World Restaurant is Accused of Paying Under Minimum Wage & Charging Employees for Uniform Cleaning

The legal problems persist for The Cake Bake Shop location at Walt Disney World. The line of former employees accusing the restaurant of not paying minimum wage has now grown to at least 11 people, court records show.

As of April 30, 2026, 11 cast members have filed a claim against the establishment.

Alexandria Pope is the latest ex-employee of Cake Bake Shop Bakery to say she was forced to do unpaid work at the third-party eatery at Disney’s BoardWalk.

Pope is seeking nearly $4,804 plus interest and attorney’s fees in her complaint filed April 30 in Orange County. That amount covers $2,402 in unpaid wages and another $2,402 for damages from when Pope worked as a server from July 2024 to January 2025, her small claims complaint said.

Pope accused owner Gwendolyn Rogers of circumventing the Florida Minimum Wage Act.

Pope relied on tips as an hourly employee but she did “excessive amounts of … side work every shift, often for hours at a time” where she wasn’t being paid any tips, she said.

Pope described her side work as chores normally done by a janitor or the kitchen staff at a restaurant.

Her complaint listed a host of assignments from stocking drinks, washing and putting away dishes, wiping menus, putting up chairs, mopping, sweeping, taking down LED lamps on tables and charging them, polishing silverware, changing table cloths and more.

“Rather than being ‘occasional,’ the side work that Plaintiff was required to undertake occupied substantial discrete and insular periods of the Plaintiff’s workday,” her complaint said. “Plaintiff was required to work for substantial periods of time before Plaintiff’s tip-producing shift began. Plaintiff was additionally required to work for substantial periods of time after Plaintiff’s shift concluded. Plaintiff had sustained periods of time during shifts where only side work tasks were being performed.”

Pope also accused the restaurant of taking money out of her check for “uniform cleaning” and “required footwear,” her complaint said.

The Cake Bake Shop did not respond to a request for this story but the company’s Vice President Angie Daniel said in an earlier statement, “We remain firmly committed to our team members, who are the foundation of our organization. We take great pride in their professionalism, dedication, and the care they bring to their work each day. We are equally committed to fostering a respectful, positive workplace where every member of our team feels supported and has the opportunity to thrive.”

Pope’s attorney also did not respond to comment for this story.

The Indiana-based Cake Bake Shop Bakery expanded in 2024 at Disney World and immediately made headlines for its prices (a slice of cake currently costs $22) and its elegant atmosphere.

WDWNT broke the story in February about a group of former employees filing complaints in either small claims, Orange County Civil or federal court in 2025 and 2026 with similar complaints to Pope’s about not getting compensated for doing menial tasks.
