Based on the 2004 film, Ella Enchanted is reportedly getting a Disney+ series adaptation. The film’s star, Anne Hathaway, is executive producing the potential series.

According to Deadline, it’s being written by Ilana Wolpert, with Beth Schwartz as showrunner. It will be co-produced by Miramax Television and Paramount Television Studios.
The reimagining of the classic Cinderella fairytale tells the story of Ella, who receives the “gift” of absolute obedience. Ella sets off to break the spell to protect herself and her kingdom. However, the Disney+ adaptation is steering away from being largely a Cinderella retelling romantic fantasy by giving it a coming-of-age feel with a boarding school setting, which is not in the film.
Anne Hathaway has worked with Disney several times before. Most recently, she starred in The Devil Wears Prada 2 with Meryl Streep. The movie surpassed expectations at its release on May 1, reaching number one at the box office with $233.6 million globally. Additionally, with this release, Disney is now the first studio to earn over $2B at the global box office in 2026.
