Fire Weather Watch

Orange and Osceola counties are under a fire weather watch beginning May 7 at 12:00 p.m. Conditions could allow fires to spread across east central Florida, including Walt Disney World.

Wind is expected to move southwest with gusts of 15 mph, with frequent higher gusts of 25 mph. Humidity is 25 to 35%, which is below average for the area. These conditions could create fires that start and spread quickly, as well as be difficult to control.

The following counties are under the Fire Weather Watch: Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange, Brevard, and Osceola.

Conditions are expected to last through the evening, ending at 8:00 p.m.

The National Weather Service strongly recommends against outdoor burning in the affected area. Any open flames, including campfires or outdoor grills, should be avoided. This may affect campers at Fort Wilderness. Theme park operations likely won’t be affected.

In addition, temperatures will gradually increase the next few days, peaking in the 90s and near records for the day on Thursday. It will cool down a few degrees on Friday into the weekend. The level of heat can impact those without adequate hydration or cooling.
