The first Disney Store Limited Time location opened to crowds worthy of Black Friday frenzy, or perhaps more accurately, a theme park rope drop.
Disney Store Limited Time Reaches Capacity After Huge Opening Day Response

Disney fans turned out in force for the opening of the first Disney Store Limited Time location at Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The temporary retail location officially opened Saturday, May 23, 2026. The store marks the debut of Disney Store Limited Time, a new retail concept bringing Disney Store merchandise and themed in-person shopping experiences to select malls for a limited run.
Shoppers visiting the store on Saturday turned to social media to share a look at the sheer fervor stirred up by the store’s opening.
TikTok user @thepinshed shared a full look at the store’s grand opening ceremony, where two young guests, dressed for the occasion as Disney Princesses, “unlocked” the store with the help of a giant Disney key, a classic icon of Disney Stores’ past.
A Facebook reel from opening day shared by user Dawne Barnes showed a long line of guests forming outside Ross Park Mall ahead of the store’s debut. The video captured guests waiting along the exterior of the mall, even enduring some morning rain, demonstrating early demand before shoppers even entered the building.
The crowds did not appear to be limited to the moments before opening. Laughing Place reported from the grand opening and described a massive line of guests waiting to enter the store. Video shared by Laughing Place on X showed dozens, if not hundreds of prospective shoppers gathered around the second floor of the Ross Park Mall prior to the store’s opening.

Ross Park Mall itself later acknowledged the response on social media, writing that demand for Disney Store Limited Time had been “incredible.” The mall also noted that the store was “currently at capacity through Sunday,” indicating that the opening weekend crowds filled available access on Saturday after only the first few hours of operation.
While the turnout for the store certainly looks to be a retail success, some mall visitors reported a less-than-optimal experience.
Another TikTok user, @disandhers, shared her personal experience, detailing the high demand and the commendable efforts of Cast Members at the location, but sharing some criticism of the store’s limited selection and strict crowd control measures.
Reddit users in the Pittsburgh community shared firsthand accounts of the busy opening. Several commenters described packed parking lots, a long line stretching through or around the mall, and a virtual queue being used to manage access to the store.
Some users reported traveling from as far as a two-hour drive away, only to discover they missed their window to join the virtual queue, citing poor communication and advance notice on how the system would work for guests.
Others reported general disorganization around the event, with some saying they were able to enter the store without any staff verifying their virtual queue status.

The next location in New Jersey is expected to open sometime this fall.
As we first covered for the announcement last month, the new Disney Store concept is designed to bring Disney Store merchandise and in-person shopping experiences to select U.S. cities for a limited period. Guests can expect Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars items, including toys, apparel, and other products typically expected of past and existing Disney stores.
Though the limited-time shops do not mark a permanent Disney Store revival, the massive turnout in Pittsburgh showed that many fans are still eager for an in-person Disney shopping experience.
