In advance of Grogu’s big screen debut, Disney Parks guests can create their own, smaller-format souvenir of the fan-favorite foundling.
The Jedi Child Comes to the (Animation) Academy
Guests visiting Disney California Adventure can now learn how to draw Grogu during a new Animation Academy session at Disneyland Resort.
Visitors can join the hands-on drawing class in the Disney Animation Building of Disney California Adventure’s Hollywood Land.
During the experience, a Disney animator guides guests through a step-by-step lesson focused on sketching Grogu, the popular character from The Mandalorian. The upcoming film installment, The Mandalorian and Grogu, a follow-up to the Disney+ series, will be in theaters on May 22. Tickets are on sale now.
Animation Academy has long offered guests the opportunity to draw Disney, Pixar, and other animated characters in a seated, instructor-led setting. The Grogu lesson breaks down the character’s recognizable features, including his large ears and expressive eyes, into a series of simple shapes and steps.
The experience is designed for guests of varying skill levels, including those without much drawing experience. At the end of the class, participants leave with their own Grogu sketch, making the activity both an interactive park experience and a free personalized souvenir.
Classes are typically offered every 30 minutes throughout the day, with no reservation required. Guests can check the schedule posted outside Animation Academy to see when Grogu or another featured character will be taught.
Given the other limited-time offerings connected to the character and the film’s release, we expect Grogu to be consistently spotlighted at Animation Academy for some time.
The addition of Grogu to Animation Academy comes as Disneyland Resort continues to highlight The Mandalorian and Grogu across the parks ahead of the film’s theatrical release.

On May 22, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will introduce a new mission starring the titular Mandalorian and Grogu.
