MoveOn Targets Disney Headquarters with Mobile Anti-Censorship Billboard

Following the most recent 1st Amendment clash between President Trump and Jimmy Kimmel, MoveOn Civil Action is taking aim at Disney with anti-censorship mobile billboards circling its Burbank headquarters.

Donald Trump is once again calling for the firing of Jimmy Kimmel after the late-night comedian took jabs at the President on the April 23 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Afterwards, both Trump and the First Lady posted statements on their respective social media demanding Kimmel be fired in a near-repeat of the events that occurred in Fall 2025.

Trump also called on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to revoke the licenses of ABC stations and Comcast-owned NBC stations, and last week, the FCC ordered early reviews of eight Disney-owned ABC stations. The Disney licenses were not scheduled for review until October 2028. The FCC has also been investigating Disney’s DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives.

Disney Chair James Gorman said large companies from time to time face “these kinds ‌of issues” to resolve: “We have a terrific new CEO, Josh D’Amaro, he’s world-class, so I’m sure he’ll rise to the occasion and do what the right thing is.” Now MoveOn Civic Action is trying to influence the behind-closed-doors conversations happening with D’Amaro.

In an email sent to subscribers, MoveOn shared that it has arranged for three mobile billboards to drive around Disney’s multiple corporate offices in Southern California and included the graphics that will be displayed:

  • An image of Kimmel with the text “Nearly 3 out of 4 Americans believe that the First Amendment should protect private speakers.” (Small print cites the source as Boston University, 10/9/25.)
  • A vertical text-only billboard saying “We’re pro-democracy and anti-censorship. Are you?” The QR code goes to MoveOn’s petition to keep Jimmy Kimmel on-air.

Jimmy Kimmel Controversies

Kimmel has navigated this situation before. In September 2025, the late night host found himself at the center of a controversy surrounding comments made on the show following the assassination of right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk. The resulting publicity crisis resulted in his show being “preempted indefinitely” from over 30 ABC stations owned by Sinclair; he was back on air less than a week later, including on the Sinclair stations. Amid the controversy, Disney’s investors demanded records to understand the reasoning behind the suspension decision.

In December 2025, Kimmel struck a deal with Disney to continue airing until 2027. Disney has not yet commented on the current situation regarding either Kimmel or the FCC review.
