The Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom continues to rotate through photos and artifacts representing past presidents and first ladies. This week, the lobby has new items for Harry S. Truman, Bess Truman, and Gerald R. Ford.
Truman & Ford Artifacts in The Hall of Presidents

The additions make the “Public Lives, Personal Memories” case look much more filled out, as pictured above.

The new Harry S. Truman items include a photo of the president in uniform as a young soldier and a World War I mess kit. Truman is the only U.S. president to serve in combat during WWI. The mess kit, discovered after the war in the basement of his sister’s house, is on loan courtesy of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum.

The Gerald R. Ford additions include a photo of him playing football and an autographed football from 1977. Signed by the Detroit Lions, the football is one of many gifted to the former athlete during his tenure. Ford almost played professionally with the Detroit Lions but chose to pursue law instead, leading to his presidency.

Over in a case of dresses and belongings of first ladies, a dinner party dress worn by Bess Truman, as well as her public library card, have replaced items that belonged to Jimmy Carter’s wife, Eleanor Rosalynn Carter. A portrait of Bess Truman now hangs at the back of the case.
