First NFL Monday Night Football Matchup & Global Game Announced Since Disney Media Acquisition

ESPN commentator Joe Buck and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell shared two football matchups on the schedule for 2027, the first since the NFL announced that it had officially handed control of the NFL Network and other media assets to Disney via ESPN.

The Walt Disney Company is preparing for a major year of live television in 2027, with ABC set to air several of the biggest events in sports and entertainment. The announced broadcasts follow Disney’s acquisition of the NFL Network via ESPN earlier this year.

The Super Bowl broadcast will mark a major milestone for ESPN and Disney. Following the acquisition of the NFL Network in February, Disney and ESPN announced “The Year of the Super Bowl,” a yearlong initiative building toward ESPN’s first Super Bowl production in February 2027. It immediately began after the 2026 Super Bowl game ended with “The Handoff,” a 24-hour event that ended at Disneyland Park with the Super Bowl cavalcade

At the 2026 Disney Upfront marketing and advertising presentation, ESPN commentator Joe Buck and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell appeared onstage to reveal that the first Monday Night Football game of the season and the first to air on Disney+ will be the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Denver Broncos, currently set for September 14.

They also shared that the NFL will continue its international expansion in Week 9, when the Cincinnati Bengals play the Atlanta Falcons in Spain.
